Why?
The traditional school system is antiquated. It was designed for a different era and is no longer sufficient for preparing students for the complexities of the modern world. We aim to revolutionize education by introducing approaches that are grounded in evidence-based practices and tailored to meet the diverse needs of today’s learners.
Why Now?
Why Now?
Over the past few years, our society has undergone two transformative shifts that have reshaped the landscape of education. The pandemic has acted as a catalyst, illuminating the deficiencies and flaws within our school system, demanding immediate change. Simultaneously, the introduction of AI has compelled us to reevaluate the very purpose of education. It is crucial for education leaders and policymakers to recognize that clinging to outdated structures is a disservice to our students. Only those with a forward-looking mindset, who embrace and champion change, can pave the way towards a more relevant and impactful education system. Let us be the architects of a future where learning thrives, and possibilities abound.
Meet the founder of Vedara
Hi, I’m Katerina Belik, a professional educator with over 28 years of teaching experience.
My educational journey began when I earned my PhD in Russia at the age of 24 and embarked on my first teaching position at my alma mater. Life took an exciting turn when my family and I immigrated to the United States in 2001.
I eagerly embraced the opportunity to teach English Language Arts (ELA) in an urban middle school within the Houston Independent School District but soon realized that I had signed up for a rough ride.
It wasn’t easy but things turned around. One year later, I was entrusted to lead a small learning community at the same school. Life demanded more professional development, and for the next 7 years of teaching I kept expanding my expertise in all areas I considered necessary. As a result, I become certified in teaching English Language Arts, General Education, English as a Second Language, Special Education, School Counseling, and School Administration.
Challenges were changed by rewards, and the ELA Department that I led in my school achieved historic highs in reading and writing for three consecutive years.
For the last 16 years of teaching, I had the privilege of working with freshmen and graduate students at a small private university in Houston. It was during this time that I witnessed the alarming decline in the mental health of freshmen. As I delved into the underlying causes, I realized that these challenges often originated much earlier in their lives. Motivated by a deep desire to make a lasting difference in student wellness, I made a life-altering decision in August 2022. Leaving behind the comfort of my faculty role at a prestigious university, I embarked on a new venture: educational start-up Vedara. At the core of Vedara and its Wellbright Solutions lies dedication to creating an optimal environment for the holistic development of every child.
Throughout our research phase at Vedara, we discovered the significant gap between scientific understanding of human development and the reality of K-12 education. So, we put together research, best practices, multiplied it by the expertise of our team, advisor’s board, and partners. We then distilled it down into the Wellbright framework which is here now to transform schools and build a brighter future for our children.
